16. Public Speaking Competition

This competition is one of my unforgettable moments because this is my first time to joined a competition like this. Also I'm not the type of person who has a confidence to speak in front of many people and I have a low self-esteem.

I am part of the competition; I am one of the representatives of our block. At first I've asked myself if I can do this because I'm not used to speaking in front of a crowd. Like I've said I have low self esteem but then I realized it would be good experience.

The theme of the contest is The Cult of celebrities and fantasies...................... is a Filipino obsession?

I made and memorized my speech 3 days before the competition. I told myself that it's okay even if I can't make it to the finals at least I tried. During the elimination round I was so nervous, my hands are sweaty and I don't know how to calm down. Also I almost forgot some of my lines and I need to get my phone and check what are the lines that I forgot. After that I told myself that I can't make it to the finals. One of the judges who is also my professor was teary eyed after she heard my speech because she told me that her husband has also a disability like me. I was surprised and I almost cried.

After the elimination round we went to the auditorium because the next is the announcement for those who made it to the finals!! Guess what?!!

OMGEEEEEEEE!!  I MADE IT TO THE FINALS!!!!!

I was so nervous that time even though I'm happy because I made it to the finals but the whole freshmen of English term will hear my speech. Honestly it's very nerve wracking.

OH YES!! THAT'S ME !!

Lastly is the announcement of the winners, that time I pray and I hope that I will win 3rd place because I want to surprise my mom because she didn't know that I joined in this competition, I want to give her a early Christmas gift but I didn't make to the top 3 but it's okay at least I tried and I know that I gave all my best. I know that my family are still proud of me even though I didn't won.

IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE and IT'S DEFINITELY UNFORGETTABLE.

15. Speech Choir & Ignite Speech

December 22, 2015. This is the last day of Som English term activity, this day is the Speech Choir and Ignite Speech Competition.

Speech Choir are performance groups that recite speeches in unison, often with elements of choreography and costuming to help bring the speech to life. It is also called chorals speaking. Much like musical choirs, dynamic, volume, range, expression and accurate coordination of syllables are all important for a successful performance.

We were informed about the speech choir 2 or 3 weeks before the competition and we were so mad and worried that time because we don't know when, where and how to start because that time we have a lot of things to do. I've asked myself, How you can make a good performance within just 2 or 3 weeks? I mean this is not only the thing we do, we have a lot of things to do also for other subjects. But we have no choice, we practice immediately because we all know that we have a limited time to practice because we have so many things to do not only this speech choir, so we manage our time to practice despite of our busy schedule. December 22, 2015 the day for speech choir competition, we enter the auditorium and we all know that we are not prepared for this competition not like the other blocks. When we saw the other blocks we felt like okay we should back out already but we have choice. We need to perform even though we are not prepared and even though our costumes is not good because this is our finals for Pubspe1 and also it's part of our grade in GramCom. The winning class deserves the award because they performed well and they have good costumes.

The Ignite Speech Competition was awesome and amazing. Every speakers speaks English fluently, I wish I can speak English fluently like them. Every speakers have to speak 15 seconds per slide only, we all know that it's very hard because you need to practice the timing but all of them performed well and it was awesome.

I'm going to miss the English term, I've learned different things and because of this I overcome my fear and that is the public speaking. Also I'm going to miss the professors. Thank you for teaching us and helping us to overcome our fear.

All in all, It was awesome !!

14. The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera at the Albert Hall it is a 2011 British Film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical The Phantom of the Opera. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Phantom of the Opera, three special performances were filmed at the Royal Albert Hall.
The staged show at the Royal Albert Hall was a daunting task, as the space (or lack of) was not an easy one to translate a proscenium show into. As a concert hall rather than a theatre, many of the show's elements (such as chandelier, which is instead of falling, exploded ) had to be toned down and simplified: the Royal Albert Hall was simply not capable of accepting a show the size of the Phantom of the Opera, or at least not the full original.

December 04, 2015, Friday, that means another film showing in our EEP Class, I was so excited because we will gonna watch again a movie, I love watching movies. When I saw the title of the show I was so excited because I know it's a great show. Also I got curious of what is it about because I don't have an idea about the film.

It was awesome, the music, the costumes and the set was so amazing and beautiful. Also the actors and actresses are beautiful they performed well. These two actors was awesome, they are really good and they performed well. Another they have nice voice, they are really good singers, I wish I can sing like them. The actress is so beautiful and the actor is so handsome. The show was great all the cast performed well and all of them has a good voice. The costumes are glamorous and also the stage. All in all it's a great show I wish I can watch this live.

13. Speak Sense 2

Public Speaking is the process or act of performing a presentation focused around an individual directly speaking to a live audience in a structured, deliberate manner in order to inform, influence or entertain them. Most of the people are afraid to talk in front of a crowd, they have fear in public speaking and we called it Glossophobia or speech anxiety. Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking or of speaking in general.

Last November 27, 2015, Apc Speaks in partnership with the Apc Students and Apc English Professors held it's second inter-high school competition which is the Speak Sense 2. This competition was held at the APC  auditorium.
There are different high school students with their trainors from different schools who joined the competition.

It was awesome and amazing, I really enjoyed the competition because watching those brave high school students speaking in front of the crowd and sharing their own story. I wonder how they do that, where do they get such motivation and courage to speak or to share their story in front of many people.

Also, I was amazed because they are only high school students yet they deliver their speech properly, they don't even have a script or guide. In such a young age they have a lot of confidence which I don't have because when I was in high school I'm not like them who joined a competition like this, I don't have no confidence and I have low self esteem but now I have confidence to speak in front of many people because of my Pubspe subjects. I learned that just trust in yourself that you can. Obviously these students are really prepared for this competition. The winner was really good, she deliver her speech well even though she cried because of what she shared. I'm sure that some of the students can relate to her story. All in all, the program was awesome and I know that some students can relate to the story of those high school students who shared their story,

12. Plagiarism

Plagiarism is act of copying the other's work and it is the "wrongful appropriation" and "stealing and publication" of another author's language, thoughts, ideas or expressions and the representation of them as one's original work. Plagiarism is using other's work , ideas and words without clearly acknowledging the source of information. So if you will copy the other's work you need to acknowledge them as your source don't copy the whole thing just use it as your guidelines.

ALL OF THE FOLLOWING ARE CONSIDERED PLAGIARISM:

  • turning in someone else's work as your own.
  • copying words or ideas from someone else without giving credit.
  • failing to put a quotation in quotation marks
  • giving incorrect information about the source of a
    quoation
  • changing words but copying the sentence structure
of a source without giving credit
  • copying so many words or ideas from a source that it
make up the majority of your work, whether you give credit or not.
ABOUT IMAGES, VIDEOS AND MUSIC:

In using an image, video or music in a work you have produced without receiving proper permission or acknowledging the cite is also a plagiarism.

How can Students avoid the plagiarism?

To avoid plagiarism, you must give credit whenever you use:
  • another person's idea , opinion, theory and words.
  • any facts, statistics , graphs, drawings-any pieces of information- that are not common knowledge.
  • quotations of another person's actual spoken or written words.
  • paraphase of another person's spoken and written words
  • copying media (especially images)

6 WAYS TO AVOID PLAGIARISM:
  • Paraphrase- Make sure that you don't copy the whole thing from the text you found. Read it and put it into your own words. If you do use more than words , you will have to use quotation marks.
  • Cite- Citing is one of the most effective ways in preventing plagiarism. Follow the document formatting guidelines (APA format, MLA format etc.) used by your educational institution or the institution that issued the research request. Not citing properly can cause plagiarism
  • Quoting- This process takes time but your efforts will pay off. When quoting a source, use the quote exactly the way it appears. Quoting must be used properly to avoid plagiarism.
  • Citing Quotes- Citing a quote is different from citing paraphrase material. This practice usually involves the addition of page number or a paragraph number in the case of web content etc.
  • Citing your own material- If some material you are using for your research paper was used by you in your current class, a previous one or anywhere else you must cite yourself.
  • Referencing- One the most important ways to prevent the plagiarism is including a reference page of works cited at the end of your research paper. This information must be very specific and includes the author(s), date of publication, title and source. Follow the directions of the age properly.
We can avoid the plagiarism by simply acknowledging that certain thing that you borrowed and providing your audience with the correct information necessary and easily to find that source is usually enough to prevent the plagiarism.

11. Media Literacy

Media Literacy is seen to consist of a series of communication competencies, including the ability to
ACCESS, ANALYZE, EVALUATE and COMMUNICATE information in a variety of forms, including print and non-print messages.

Media refers to all technologies or digital means and artistic visuals used to transmit messages.
Literacy is the ability to encode and decode symbols and to synthesize, analyze messages.
Media Literacy is the ability to encode and decode the symbols transmitted via media and the ability to synthesize, analyze and produced messages.

Media Literacy represents a necessary, inevitable and realistic response to the complex, ever-changing environment and communication that surround us.
Nowadays most of the people are lack of education means lack of awareness and that lack of awareness is often perpetuated by the media.

Media Literacy and Media Education are used synonymously in most English-Speaking nations.
Media Education is the process of teaching and learning about media. It's about developing the public's critical and creative abilities when it comes to media. Education for media literacy often uses an inquiry based model that encourages people to ask questions about what they hear, watch and read. In our new generation Media Education or Media Literacy is very important for us to know about this thing.

Last Wednesday, November 28, 2015 in Auditorium, we attended a seminar about Media Literacy the Title was Mobilizing the Millenials as Socially Responsible Prosumers. The seminar was good because it gives us information about media, technology, social media and etc.

There are 3 speakers who is from GMA network
These three speakers are very young but they already working in one of the public affairs in the Philippines which is the State of the Nation of Jessica Soho.

This three lovely ladies taught us different things that we can apply or we can use in our daily lives. The first speaker taught us how to make a good report and what are the things you should know that you should do in doing a report so that you can make a good report. One of the most important thing that I've learned from her is the So what ? question in making a report. Only few people know about the so what question so that other people don't care to their  report. Everyone can make a new report but the question of everyone is SO WHAT ? why do we need care ? why do we need to pay attention to your report ? and How it is important this is the things that we also must considered to make a report so that we can make a great report to get the attention of everybody.

However, the second speaker taught us different things or information about social media. We all know that most of the people are now addicted to social media but some of us don't use the social media properly so that they get in trouble.
She taught us that in social media you can also get some information or news it's not only about the trending topics in showbiz like ALDUB but it also about the trending news in our country. Social media helps everyone to know what's going on in our country so she said that sometimes they used social media to tell their report or to tell some news that we need to pay attention.
